Hamaca 2026 Call for Videos

April 21, 2026

Call for video submissions

HAMACA opens a new public call aimed at artists who wish to become part of Hamaca, for the submission of videos to be included in its experimental audiovisual archive. The selected works will be catalogued, disseminated, and distributed nationally and internationally by Hamaca on a non-exclusive basis, and may be included in the Hamaca Projecta and Hamaca Aprèn research or training programs.

What is HAMACA, and what does it mean to be part of the archive

HAMACA is the main platform for the archiving, dissemination, and study of contemporary audiovisual practices at a national level, and it connects a wide network of agents in the fields of creation, critical thought, visual arts, and experimental audiovisual work. Established as a non-profit association, HAMACA preserves, distributes, and promotes the works in its archive, which includes more than 1,300 videos produced from the late 1960s to the present.

Being part of the archive means accessing the cataloguing, management, circulation, and preservation services that HAMACA provides, as well as generating an economic flow for its artists. Alongside documentation and preservation work, HAMACA promotes distribution (museums and art centres; universities and schools; festivals; screenings in medium and large formats) and learning initiatives (workshops and seminars with artists, young people, professionals, and interested audiences). In this way, HAMACA fosters the use of video and professionalisation, while raising social and institutional awareness of the need to develop new policies for the preservation of audiovisual heritage.

Participants

Participation is open to individuals or collectives who are not yet part of the catalogue, who were born, reside, or have had a period of professional activity in Spain, with no age limit. Applicants may submit up to three single-channel videos of any production date. Works may be in any language, but must include Spanish subtitles. Videos may be recorded in any format; however, in the case of works produced using analog media, a digitised version must be submitted for inclusion in the archive.

Application and selection

Applications must be submitted exclusively through the following form. The following documentation must be completed and/or attached:

Contact details of the author or collective (email and phone number) | Narrative biography (between 800 and 2,100 characters; CVs will not be accepted) | Photograph of the author or members of the collective | Title of the video | Technical details of the video: year of production, duration, production format(s), master format, etc | Synopsis of the video (between 800 words and 2,700 characters) | Link(s) to the video(s), which must be available for online viewing, and the corresponding password if private | A high-quality still frame from the video.

The application is free of charge and will remain open until May 17 at midnight.

The selection committee is composed of Elena DuqueVicente Monroy, and Marianela Vega. The selection criteria will be based on the quality and interest of the work, as well as its relevance for inclusion in the archive as representative of trends, contexts, or types of practices that have emerged and continue to emerge in the history of video.

The results will be announced on June 19 at www.hamacaonline.net and will be communicated by email to all participants, who agree to provide the material requested by Hamaca for inclusion in the archive before July 1, 2026.
