The Bad Painting Series project began as a sort of contin-uation (or spin-off, hence the title of the first episode) of the work La Mala Pintura (2008), but the artist soon saw that they could be independent and gave them their own character. They are short pieces with similar coordinates that deal with themes focusing on creation and the art world in a generic way. In each episode the main char-acter is subjected to a situation of emotional strain and doubts with respect to his creative process that is resolved with an eventful plot twist. They are seemingly simple stories featuring artists who either see themselves in the circumstance of not knowing how to resolve the conven-tional commission of a portrait or who believe in a work that has gotten away from them. The guiding thread is the moral dilemma of making the correct choice and the consequences this may bring for one’s artistic and existen-tial path. Yes, in a certain way they can be understood as moral tales seasoned with a highly demystifying humor.
