Mimeomai, Greek word for mimesis, is the title of this video in which, following a unique experience in the Amazon rainforest, the artist undergoes a cathartic identification with his environment. This is a performance during which the artist attempts to become one with the rainforest, trying to generate the possibility of an aesthetic experience, of a cleansing of the soul, a soul inscribed in the first world. This is a primitive experience involving escape, refuge and mimesis.

"I think that the jungle had whispered things about him that he did not know himself, things which he had no idea about until they were brought up in that enormous solitude." (Joseph Conrad, Heart of Darkness)

Throughout the video, the artist's silhouette is observed. He seems more of an absence than a presence, a mysterious being in an oppressive and stifling atmosphere, an equal to the jungle, a shadow. Nevertheless, our attention is captured by the whiteness of his eyes and teeth, by the blackness of his hair. The colour white in the midst of the jungle hinders all access to knowledge of virgin matter. The artist is another animal, pale, defenseless, entangled in the immensity of the Amazon and feeling excluded by nature itself. An so he mutates and becomes the heart of the jungle, another shadow, both breathing life into the trees and vampirizing it from them, adapting their shapes, touching them, moving them, joining them, mimetisizing with them.

Nevertheless, beneath the green paint, civilization always remains. This is the white of the coloniser, a necessary lie under which the truth of our green primitivism, hidden away, always beats. A primitivism that, although concealed by various layers of social roles and education, is intimately constitutive of the self. In other words, the experience of the wild is presented as a purifying act. The artist becomes the original soul: confronted in a real sense with a series of natural presences, before which meaning fades away and our cunning civilization dissolves.
