Screening of No yo (Lúa Coderch, 2018) and intervention by blanca arias
nunca había querido ser carne hasta que me conoció
Video Tuesdays in Santa Mònica (Barcelona)

The script and staging of No yo (2018) are a distant remembrance of Samuel Beckett's 1972 play of the same name. This film is a monologue performed by Ikram Bouloum's isolated lips, in which the voice describes a sequence of six scenes: a teenager tries to remove a stain from her clothes; an actress submits to the dictates of a theatre director; a child has a voice higher-pitched than is desirable; a radio presenter loses his voice; an academic's tongue swells inexplicably; and an intern is publicly humiliated by her boss. The voice is thus explored as a physical phenomenon, through speech and discourse. Its creator, Lúa Coderch, combines narrative and object-based practices in videos, performances and installations that she configures as research devices.
This video will be accompanied by a talk by blanca arias, the cycle's curator, who will explore the connections between Lúa Coderch's work and other resonant images. Together, we will attempt to reflect on dissonance, polyphony or aphonia as subtle forms of resistance. What sounds and what mutes between silence and scream? What unruly uses can we make of a tongue, a throat, a pair of lips?
