Video Tuesdays in Santa Mònica (Barcelona)

5000 feminismos (2010) captures the political and organisational strength of feminism following the gathering on December 6th, 2009, which marked the 30th anniversary of the first Feminist Conference in Granada with a demonstration in the city centre. Around 5,000 feminists gathered for two hours so that a batucada, the guild of the 'mismísimo coño', a performance by the Medeak collective and dozens of banners held by thousands of bodies, could embody the breadth of the feminist subject. Cecilia Barriga has made numerous documentaries and television reports, but has also worked in the field of fiction. Since the beginning of her career in 1982, she has documented the situation of women around the world, feminist thought and activism, and the construction of individual and collective identities. She's also closely followed the process of citizen movements such as 15M in Spain, ''Occupy Wall Street'' in the USA and student protests in Chile.

The film will be accompanied by a screening of audiovisual material from archivo de Ca la Dona and a conversation between blanca arias and another archivist from Centro de Documentación de Ca la Dona. Reflecting on how, during demonstrations, the street becomes a heart that beats collectively, the session will bring together various documentary materials that record the heartbeat of the feminist struggle in public spaces. United by the same pulse that creates space for arrhythmia, the right to their own voice that feminists have been demanding emerges over the decades as a claim for polyphony and dissonance. Which body, then, is capable of articulating this song? How can we keep time while anticipating the syncopation?

The Centro de Documentación de Ca la Dona is the archive and library of Ca la Dona, a space for women, lesbians, trans and non-binary people that thrives on the desire to care for, shape and share our genealogies. The centre, which currently has some eighty documentary collections thanks to the feminist generosity of numerous donors, is supported by more than twenty archivists, responsible for preserving feminist memory - especially that linked to the Catalonia context - and for continuing to bring it to life through a network of alliances with various entities, for the sake of a shared past and desire for the future. With each activation of the archive, our aim is to showcase the richness and diversity of feminist archives, as well as to invite others to explore them in the same way we do: with desire, intuition, respect and confidence.
