La pantalla monstruosa 4th session: public programme by equipoMotor

For this final film screening, which explores ways of stepping outside the institutional framework and activating alternative ways of seeing, playing, resisting and organising collectively, the equipoMotor 25-26 has chosen to screen High Roads (Giuliana Racco, 2022), a film that shifts the focus away from the grand narratives of genocide in Palestine towards everyday forms of resistance. Through four Palestinian women who practise sport, breathing exercises and other physical disciplines in a context marked by Israeli military occupation, the film shows how care, persistence and community-building can become political practices. The film connects with the idea of the 'magical yes' (el sí mágico) through the decision to continue fostering wellbeing, movement and connections where conditions seem to prevent it. It also proposes a form of decentralisation: resistance does not appear in institutions or official discourses, but in bodies, emotions and shared gestures.
The museum then ceases to appear as a fixed place from which culture is organised and instead becomes a space bound by other rules, temporalities and ways of inhabiting the public sphere; the focus shifts to what is normally left out: peripheral territories, hybrid practices, clumsy yet well-intentioned gestures, or forms of organisation that lie outside the dominant codes. Instead of a institutional glamour, what emerges here is the rough, the precarious and the strange as legitimate ways of making and displaying culture. The proposal seeks not so much to assert a new centrality as to raise a question about what happens when the authority of the centre is destabilised and other sensibilities, bodies or imaginaries enter the scene. A cinema that, rather than offering definitive answers or seeking consensus, experiments with different ways of inhabiting the museum and producing a shared space.
