The Vertical Bodies

David Ortiz Juan

When everything is set in motion the only way to survive is to get detached from everything, even of oneself.

The Vertical Bodies mediates between experiences of estrangement, and perceptions of selfness and otherness evoked by the sensation of perpetual motion. Situated in the context of Palestine, the story is interrupted by fragments from the text Essay on Exoticism: An Aesthetics of Diversity, written by Victor Segalen in the early 20th century, and using visuals of an exotic aquatic landscape.

The film reflects on questions of otherness, exoticism, homogenization and deterritorialization.
