This project was initiated in 1976 by Eugeni Bonet (from Barcelona) and José Miguel Gómez (from Madrid, although he eventually left the project) and edited later by In Vitro in 1997. These pieces situate us at the edge of a Spain in transition, leaving behind the dictatorship of Francisco Franco, after he had died in 1975, and headed towards 1977, year in which the first democratic elections took place and the deadline for authors to answer the open call to participate in this project on urban spaces.
The country's economic recuperation, progressive industrialization, and the mutation of urban areas with the transformation of neighborhoods and centers, are the starting points for an analysis that extends and includes cities like Paris or New York. The authors come from the generation of creators who started to experiment with moving image through Super8 and who had links to the active world of Barcelona; although some of them had already made the exodus to other cities like Torres in Paris, Miralda, Muntadas, and Balcells to New York. The premises for their works were minimal; address the project's subject, not last longer than five minutes, and to use the stipulated technical medium. The tape begins with a list of the artists that formed part of the project and then continues with one work after another. In the middle of a complex political context, sometimes subtly reflected, some attached themselves to the skin of a city going from black and white to color, while others explored circuits and movements, and others the sense roaming and transit. There are pieces that question consumer society and others that focus on the exaltation of identity confronted with the anonymity of the masses. All of them, in general, contribute to provoking a new look at a world that, in those moments, started to transform at an accelerated pace. They provide the viewer with some instruments or analytical exercises of memory, that today remain valid. The original was edited to create a certain order by Eugeni Bonet, but was later modified so that the dialogue between the works would make more sense.
