Protectio presents an ethnographic portrait of the main characters' (Lydia and Jordi) daily lives, who share their space with hundreds of abandoned dogs and cats. Their values and unique way of understanding and confronting life’s challenges are expressed through a cosmology designed to confront society's contradictions. With a life of sacrifice dedicated to service, protection, and the rescue of thousands of lives, their reflections suggest that something is deeply wrong in society. Their way of rebelling against the unscrupulous abandonment of animals has pushed Lydia and Jordi to live on the margins of a social core that permits suffering, hostility, and ostracism toward vulnerable and marginalized beings. The message they propose engages in dialogue with voices from other communities striving to end the atrocities of a system that prioritizes everything but life, be it humans, other sentient beings, or the planet itself.
