In this amazing piece Teixidó takes on a classic artistic genre, that of the self-portrait, in order to traverse, in an extraordinary exercise, the space between fiction and reality, verisimilitude and the possible, image and sound; and all of this, cloaked in the usual personal humorous style so characteristic of this unclassifiable author.
As if he was a magician revealing his tricks to us, Teixidó offers us insights into how the different fragments that together constitute this piece, have been elaborated, without in so doing making the work any less amazing. The limits of perception are put to work, optical illusions and technological artifices are made available to a meditation on identity, more precisely, on the construction of identity.
Autoretrat thus combines animation fragments, sound pieces, performative acts and a very personal imagery, with which this peculiar self-portrait, or portrait of portraits, slowly takes shape. The fact is that although in this work Teixidó reveals some of his resources, this does not put him in a more vulnerable position, quite the contrary, we can watch him display his visual charms like a master of ceremonies, going from one stage to the next by means of different media and registers that allow us to reach his own thinking process.
In this piece Teixidó avails himself of a multitude of visual resources, which he uses freely and depending on his necessities: from the letter that he sends himself with his own effigy on the stamp, to the image of his silhouette contemplating a mountain landscape for hours, as well as a shot of his entire wardrobe.
There is no doubt that this is one of the most interesting pieces by Teixidó, who in his work has been able to combine dance, image and sound in an always humorous and personal way.
