The personal odyssey recorded in Curinwara follows in the footsteps of a research previously carried out in 1941 by the ethnobiologist Richard Evans Schultes and is combined at the same time with the spiritual restlessness of the artist, captured in his personal diary. It was filmed while Ortuño lived with a Shipiba Community of the Peruvian Upper Ucayali River in 2009. This video revolves around the belief that everything that exists is a unity, everything must be harmonised in order to live in health and peace. For the Shipibo world, everything that exists is composed of designs that open the consciousness to the infinite. For this reason, objective and subjective images of reality itself are intermingled in the video.
Ortuño shows that the Shipibo healers are true experts in the use of master plants and in particular Ayahuasca. Through the succession of images in this narrative, we can observe the transit towards the spiritual worlds mediated by a whole ritual of popular chants where the author of the video is baptised with the name of Curinwara.
