One night like any other, an amateur astronomer goes out to his balcony to watch the sky through his telescope. With surprise, he notices one comet that, were it to continue its current trajectory, would soon crash into the earth, more specifically, into the Sevillian countryside. This discovery turns his village, El Viso del Alcor, as well as the neighbouring Mairena del Alcor, into the centre of a media campaign to cover the event of the millenium. Such is the subject of Feel the impact, a fun documentary-fiction-television about the end of the world, as defined by its author.
With large doses of irony this short fiction film refers to the power of manipulation that the media exercise when constructing and treating news information. The video mockingly presents the transformation of an annonymous subject –the first witness of the comet Chari-, under the influence of the media, who turn him into a social protagonist. Likewise, a previously unknown village becomes the centre of very important events.
This piece of traditional linear narrative structure, featuring up to 30 actors, 10 locations, 3D animation and an original soundtrack, composes a mocking look at the large scale Holywood film productions that deal with catastrophes and natural disasters.
Feel the impact is an amazing work that meant a lot of effort for a group of young people, who, in the summer of 1995, decided to spend their free time filmmaking in El Visor del Alcor (Sevilla). Out of this group the collective Comencemos Empecemos (Let´s start Let´s begin) and the Festival ZEMOS98 were founded.
