Land Schaften presents the images of a trip through villages that are uninhabited and on the verge of disappearing. These are towns far away from important urban centres, towns that become pierced spaces, lacking any form of urban life. The house fronts, patios, warehouses, and windows pass in front of the observer’s gaze, who is in constant movement. The different images succeed each other under the voice over narration of Christian Strauss, an urban engineer who describes the current situation of depopulation in Germany, the experience of his own family and that of his birth town. At the same time, in simultaneous fashion, we see images of the empty spaces of the Castilian landscape, of their monotony, the light changing gradually along the two hours that the recording lasts.
