Quien ahora emerges out of a piece produced for the tv screens in the underground stations and airports of Madrid and Barcelona. In this work Gutiérrez combines images of buildings under construction, restoration, and suchlike, to a soundtrack of baroque music. Over the images a text is superimposed.

“Who now doesn’t build a house will never build one” is one of the lines of the text that we read. But the amazing thing is not the text itself, which almost reads like the motto of a construction company, but rather the fact that the mentioned line is part of a poem by Rainer Maria Rilke titled “Autumn Day”.

The video clearly alludes to the excessive rate of construction that cities such as Madrid or Barcelona have fallen prey to. At the same time it exposes the precarious conditions of some existing buildings.
