Taxidermy is a masterpiece difficult to define, unique for its hybrid nature both formally and by the complex web of conceptual relationship between content generated dialogues without hierarchy, influencing one another.
The first contact with this piece suggests a creative documentary about the world of Taxidermy and its protagonists, but in reality, it makes comparisons from the start, between the way of creating of contemporary artists and taxidermists; and above all, the work ends up being a metaphor for the creative act in itself, the idea of creating to perpetuate life ... and the tensions between art and existence. The film mixes black and white and color, and is shot in various formats: Super 8, 16 mm, 35 mm, and video of various bills and quality, resulting in a very personal texture that emphasizes the fragment, trimming, folding, The idea of fabric sewn from heterogeneous materials. Each of these pieces has its own essence: from conceptual actions, performative, featuring taxidermy animals that are located in diferent places, to real and fictional interviews with artists and taxidermists, and a series of layers of stories within stories, in a tone that also changes and contradicts, but maintains algid carefull aesthetics of oriental and neoconceptual taste, dating to underground cinema and exquisite advertising, and above all distills melancholy.
In the end, it is a deep reflection on cinema and its effort to catch and perpetuate life as well as the taxidermist tries. Besides enjoying a piece rich at all levels, becomes even more valuable for having interviewed some Spanish contemporary artists of great interest as Bene Bergado or Joan Fontcuberta.
